Progress Massing Diagram Study

This analysis is based on the Site study. As previously mentioned I made some changes to my massing model , I have rearranged the places of the programs. This way when visitor come in to the site , they will have a direct access to the lobby followed by gym/auditorium/restaurant facility. Hotel guests will proceed further down to the rooms and/or be able to access the spa which is located at the end of the hallway in the first floor. Some portion of the building is elevated 30 to 40 feet in order. All of the parts of the building are linked to each other , they will be accessible from the outside, as well.

Massing Diagram Development

Below you will find my 2 previous attempts in creating my massing model based on my 3D model and my program interpretation. This helped me to learn  as well as to identify some aspects I 'd like to apply and to incorporate in my final model.

Some of the elements I found that I 'd like to apply are:

The shape of the massing - as I mentioned at the beginning - I wanted to create a structure that would essentially preserve the historic appearance of the neighborhood. Therefore, in my opinion sticking to simple shape such as the rectangle and arch shape (LOBBY) would accomplish that intention.

The orientation and the height of the massing- I also wanted to take advantage of the waterfront vistas and by raising my hotel not only it will allow for waterfront view but also include city view.

The wall surrounding the hotel and guiding the guests - I believe creating a wall can have multiple purposes, It can be aesthetically pleasing , guiding and also separating spaces. For instance, I am planing to situate my loading dock behind the wall , hence hiding it from the visitor's view.

From the study below I also found some drawbacks. Therefore, my next Program study will have different approach.  I 'd like my visitors when they come into the site to be able to access the lobby then be able to proceed further to the hotel and then to the spa. I believe this way it would allow for some privacy to the guests who are staying at the hotel versus to the general public who is coming in to utilize facilities such as the gym/ auditorium and/or the restaurant. Hence, I am planing to rearrange the order of the spaces.
